Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter has been named to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, one of four first-year members who will replace Sun Belt Conference Commissioner and current committee Chair Keith Gill, Alabama AD Greg Byrne, Minnesota AD Mark Coyle and recently retired Syracuse AD John Wildhack.

Other first-year members, who will start their terms later this year alongside Carter, include Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua, Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Jeff Jackson and Northwestern AD Mark Jackson.

Carter will join the council for a 5-year term and make decisions related to seeding, selecting and placing teams in brackets for March Madness. He’s set to be the SEC’s representative on the council, replacing Byrne from Alabama.

Carter joined the Ole Miss athletics department in 2009 and was promoted to deputy AD in 2018. Soon after Ross Bjork’s resignation Carter was named interim AD. The interim tag was officially removed in 2019. The former Rebels basketball standout was a 4-year starter has thrived in his role as Ole Miss’s AD, overseeing two Ole Miss national championships and the school’s 3 best finishes all-time in the Learfield College Directors’ Cup.
