The Kentucky Wildcats and coach Mark Pope have been under a lot of scrutiny since their NCAA Tournament run came to an end in Round 2 this past March.
After several high-profile transfers and missing out on top targets in the portal, it didn’t look like Pope and company had much of a plan for what to do next. However, on Monday night, the Wildcats kicked off June with a major portal victory.
Former Iowa State star Milan Momcilovic announced that he’d be wearing Kentucky blue this next season, according to a report from On3. Momcilovic went through the NBA Draft process, but ultimately decided to withdraw his name last week.
He was the nation’s leading 3-point shooter, knocking down 48.7% of his attempts from beyond the arc:
Momcilovic put up that lofty 3-point percentage on 7.5 attempts per game, so he shoots at volume in addition to being efficient. He also averaged 3.1 rebounds per game this past season.
He’ll join a core of players that include Washington transfer Zoom Diallo, returning big man Malachi Moreno, and others. Will that lead to more success this year? We’ll find out soon enough.
