Kentucky suffers decommitment from elite point guard prospect

Kentucky on Thursday suffered a de-commitment from one of its top players in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Acaden Lewis, rated the No. 5 point guard in the class of 2025 by 247Sports, has re-opened his recruitment.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I have to do what’s best for my future,” Lewis told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Thursday. “Thank you to Coach [Mark] Pope and the whole Kentucky staff for all they’ve done for me so far.”
Lewis announced his commitment to the Wildcats program in November, but those plans have now changed.
“This is not in any way a reflection of any negative feelings towards Coach Pope and Kentucky,” Lewis said. “I appreciate your understanding and am excited for what the future holds.”
Lewis’s de-commitment means that the Wildcats have 2 high school players pledged from the 2025 class: Overtime Elite guard Jasper Johnson and in-state big man Malachi Moreno. Both are rated in the top 30 among all players nationally.
The Wildcats also have 4 transfers coming into the program: center Jayden Quaintance (Arizona State), forward Mo Dioubate (Alabama), point guard Jaland Lowe (Pitt), and small forward Kam Williams (Tulane).
Lowe pledged on Saturday, giving the Wildcats an immediate starter at the PG position.
