The LSU Tigers’ 2026-27 basketball roster, even with the season about to get underway, still isn’t finalized. RJ Luis Jr.’s injunction helped make that the case. While Will Wade doesn’t know exactly who he’ll be able to play in December, he’ll have no uncertainty this time next year.
On Saturday, LSU received a commitment from Dallas, TX native Xavier Young. The 6-foot-10, 250 lb. center, originally part of the 2028 class, is reclassifying to 2027 and will join the Tigers a year early.

Young was the No. 11 player in the 2028 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He creates an incredibly talented trio of incoming freshman for Wade by reclassifying. LSU already landed a pair of top 15 prospects for the 2027 class in point guard Reece Alston (No. 9) and combo guard King Gibson (No. 14) prior to Young’s decision.
The Tigers, in Wade’s first season back, were picked to finish 14th in the SEC standings during the conference’s annual preseason poll. LSU’s national standing in many sports, thanks to its colorful coaches, lends itself to motivation for Tiger teams. Wade didn’t need more bulletin board material, but he won’t complain about it.
LSU faces New Orleans to begin the 2026-27 season on Tuesday, Nov. 3 (8:00 p.m. ET).
