Mark Pope shares Kentucky’s record for ‘shortest visit’ from a portal prospect
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope is continuing his Q&A series with Big Blue Nation this week.
On Monday, Pope answered a number of fan questions including one about on-campus visits. Pope was asked if Kentucky has ever decided to withdraw interest in a player based on their visit to campus.
Pope confirmed that’s happened multiple times in the past and also shared UK’s “record” for shortest on-campus visit from a portal prospect.
“In the high pace of portal recruiting, a lot of times, the first time you ever meet a player in person is on their campus visit. We’ve had a lot of great visits, we’ve had some visits that we cut short,” Pope said. “Our record for cutting a visit short was 3 hours where we just determined that this was not going to be a great fit.”
Here’s a clip of Pope’s answers on Monday:

Kentucky has lost a few high-profile recruiting battles this offseason, so the program’s process has been under scrutiny from fans as Pope’s staff works to build out UK’s roster for the 2026-27 season.
Pope is entering a pivotal Year 3 in Lexington. The Wildcats have reached the NCAA Tournament in each of Pope’s first 2 years at the helm, but have otherwise failed to meet UK’s lofty expectations as a program.
