Notre Dame basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry chased an official off the court after the Irish’s 72-71 loss to Cal on Friday night.

Shrewsberry was livid after a controversial call went against Notre Dame in the closing seconds of the game.

Here’s a clip of the incident:

Cal scored 7 points in the final 11 seconds of the game to pull off the comeback victory.

Cal was trailing by 3 points as it brought the ball up the floor with under 10 seconds remaining in the game. Shrewsberry instructed his team to foul up by 3 points in the closing seconds — a strategy that has become more common in recent years to prevent teams from attempting a game-tying 3-pointer.

However, officials ruled that Notre Dame’s foul came too late. Cal’s Dai Dai Ames hit a 3-pointer shortly after being fouled, giving the Golden Bears an and-one opportunity — and a chance to take the lead.

Chaos then ensued, as officials initially reversed the call to an on-the-floor-foul only to reverse that decision and put the points back on the board for Cal.

Here’s a replay of the sequence that led to Shrewsberry’s reaction:

It’s possible Shrewsberry will face a suspension for this outburst. Notre Dames will be in action again on Jan. 10 against Clemson.
