Ole Miss basketball reportedly in the mix for intriguing SEC frontcourt transfer

Former Florida Gators center Micah Handlogten is in the transfer portal, looking to play a 5th season in college basketball as more and more eligibility cases are being granted in favor of players who previously exhausted their college eligibility.
According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein on Monday, Handlogten is considering 3 programs — NC State, USC and Ole Miss.

Don’t let Handlogten’s averages fool you. The 7-foot-1 center sat behind SEC Defensive Player of the Year Rueben Chinyelu while also hovering in a frontcourt that included Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh. That’s a lot of mouths to feed, and Handlogten still played an important role with 6 boards across just 15 minutes of action per game.
Handlogten would be an immediate candidate to start for Beard and the Rebels. Ole Miss currently has Arizona State transfer Santiago Trouet and Pepperdine 7-footer Stefan Cicic on board, but Trouet is a little undersized to really anchor the center position — and Cicic is unproven at the SEC level. Handlogten is a good answer to address both those issues at a crucial position.
