Ole Miss basketball has signed former James Madison forward Christian Brown, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Brown is the fourth addition to Chris Beard’s offseason transfer haul, which also includes former Seton Hall guard Budd Clark, former Pitt forward Roman Siulepa and former Washington State center ND Okafor.
Brown is yet another forward addition who had a record-breaking season last year at James Madison. The 6-8, 235-pound shot blocker broke the James Madison school record for the most blocked shots across a single season at 49. This is especially impressive considering Brown averaged just over 13 minutes per game.
Brown is not only an intriguing addition for Beard because of his ability on defense. He will also retain 3 seasons of eligibility, which gives him time to work on his offensive game.
Offense definitely isn’t Brown’s strongsuit. He averaged just 3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season and hit 55% of his 2-point attempts, not exactly elite for a Sun Belt forward. Still, his defense and rebounding will give him a spot on the floor with the Rebels.
Ole Miss‘s transfer portal additions are not finished quite yet. The Rebels lost 8 players to the portal this offseason, meaning there’s plenty of work to do for Beard entering his 4th year in Oxford.
