SEC Network analyst says Florida basketball feels like the ‘team of destiny’ in 2025
SEC Network’s Chris Doering doesn’t have to hide from his past.
He was born in Gainesville. He played quarterback at Florida and played it well, as a first-team All-SEC and second-team All-American selection in 1995. That was 30 years ago, but Doering will always be blue and orange through and through. Now though, he’s paid to give his opinions on SEC football and basketball, and so Doering had to shed his deep Gator allegiance and get serious about why he believes Florida might be the ones cutting down the nets on Monday night in San Antonio.
“It feels like Florida has a little team of destiny to it,” said Doering on Thursday, 2 days before Florida clashes with SEC rival Auburn in a matchup of conference powerhouses who were both 1-seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
Doering’s reasoning comes from UF’s 2 thrilling victories over UConn in the second round and Texas Tech in the regional final, when the Gators faced late deficits and stared elimination in the face.
Doering even invoked the word “Cinderella” when describing Florida.
Here’s a clip of his analysis alongside Peter Burns:
Come Saturday night, we’ll find out about that whole destiny idea for Florida and if the Gators are moving on to play for everything on Monday night against either Duke or Houston.
