The Southeastern Conference’s motto is “It Just Means More”, but at least at Thursday’s SEC Tournament basketball game between Kentucky and Missouri that motto could have been “It Just Gets Really Loud”.
SEC Network anchor Peter Burns shared a selfie of his Apple Watch during Kentucky’s 78-72 victory over Mizzou at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville – the wearable device indicating that Burns was in a “loud environment” and that sound levels hit at least 90 decibels.
The watch’s alert – with Burns wearing it about 15 rows away from courtside – also said that “30 minutes at this level can cause temporary hearing loss” – though fortunately for Burns and the game’s attendees said noise didn’t last that long before the Wildcats held off the Tigers to advance to the quarterfinals.
Kentucky’s raucous fanbase, the self-styled Big Blue Nation, often packs venues to cheer on the Wildcats – the sport’s winningest program in history. Ninth-seeded Kentucky (21-12) advances to take on top-seeded Florida (25-6) in Friday’s quarterfinals (1 pm ET, ESPN).
Kentucky and Florida have already faced off twice during the regular season, with the Gators earning a 92-83 victory at the O’Connell Center on Feb. 14 and then downing the Wildcats 84-77 at Rupp Arena on March 7.
