Hakeem Olajuwon played his college basketball at Houston and then went on to be one of the best players in the NBA, as he had a Hall of Fame career with the Houston Rockets.
His son, Abdul-Malik Olajuwon, will be starting his college basketball career soon. According to ESPN, he has committed to SMU:
He chose the Mustangs over other schools such as Minnesota, K-State, Virginia Tech and Auburn, and is the first commitment for the Mustangs in the 2027 class.
Olajuwon is a late-blooming prospect, but the IMG Academy star is a big-time signing for Enfield and the Mustangs. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is a 4-star prospect and the No. 66 prospect in the 2027 class. He is the No. 4 SG, and the No. 15 player in Florida.
He is continuing to develop his jump shot, but he has a chance to be an elite defensive player at the collegiate level. While he isn’t the same height as his dad, he is a long defender who does a terrific job of causing havoc in the passing lanes.
His older brother signed with Stanford in the class of 2026.
