Stephen A. Smith was impressed with what he saw from Florida in its 104-82 beatdown of Alabama in the SEC Tournament on Saturday.
While acknowledging that he hasn’t been following college basketball all year, Smith said he believes the Gators have a “great chance” to take home the National Championship this year.
“I gotta admit, they look real as hell,” Smith wrote on social media. “Size. Athleticism. Shooting. Defense. Joakim Noah and Al Horford gotta be proud. They’ve got a great chance to win it all.”
The win over Alabama was one of Florida’s most impressive of the season, and that’s saying something considering the Gators are 29-4 on the year. This was Florida’s first win away from home this season by double digits against a team in KenPom’s top 10.
Florida is still competing for a spot on the 1-seed line. A win over Alabama — who is also in the mix to be a No. 1 seed — will certainly help Florida’s argument. Florida has not been a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament since 2014.
The Gators will now face Tennessee in the SEC Tournament title game at 1 p.m. ET. The Selection Sunday broadcast begins at 6 p.m. ET.
