Auburn has had a bit of an up-and-down campaign in Steven Pearl’s first season taking over for his father as the Tigers’ head coach.
Things appear to be looking up lately, though.
The Tigers are currently on a three-game winning streak, capped by back-to-back victories on the road. Auburn beat Ole Miss in Oxford 78-66 on Jan. 20 before upsetting ranked Florida 76-67 four days later.
That’s the Tigers at 13-7 overall and 4-3 in SEC play. They’re in a three-way tie for third in the conference standings but are eighth on a tiebreaker as Texas comes to Neville Arena on Wednesday.
Victories at The Pavilion and the O’Connell Center has shown the growth of the team since the season began, Pearl said on Tuesday.
“Those are two tough places to play,” Pearl said, according to On3’s Caleb Jones. “To do it in two hostile environments, it shows that there’s been progress made.”
While there are still weeks to go until the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers are currently an at-large team in Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology released on Tuesday morning.
From a conference standpoint, if the SEC Tournament were to begin on Wednesday, the Tigers would face Tennessee in the 8/9 matchup. Auburn and Tennessee meet in the regular season on Saturday.
