Texas basketball made a huge addition to its roster on Tuesday morning.

According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the Longhorns have earned a commitment from international forward Declan Duru. The 6-foot-9 forward just helped Germany earn the silver medal at last week’s U19 World Cup. He’s largely played at the youth level overseas, but did earn a debut with Real Madrid earlier this season.

According to Givony’s scouting report, Duru can stretch the floor as a shooter and offers defensive versatility.

Duru’s arrival for college basketball continues a recent strong trend of international players choosing to play in the United States ahead of the NBA Draft rather than in Europe. Notably, last season Illinois had guard Kasparas Jakucionis on its roster after he began his pro career with FC Barcelona.

Here are some recent highlights from Duru this summer:

This is a significant addition for Sean Miller in his first offseason as the Texas basketball coach. Miller took over for Rodney Terry this past offseason after the Longhorns suffered a couple of early exits from the NCAA Tournament over the past 2 seasons. Miller has had success at programs like Arizona and Xavier — something Texas fans hope he’ll be able to replicate in Austin.

Texas will have plenty of new faces next season in addition to Duru. The Longhorns have already signed 5 transfers this offseason. Their transfer class ranks No. 25 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
