A trio of former LSU stars were named finalists for the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Award on Thursday afternoon.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers each made the cut. The other 2 finalists for the award are Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers and Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
After the finalists were announced, LSU acknowledged the accomplishment from the 3 former Tigers:
Daniels is the heavy favorite to win the award. He led the Commanders to the playoffs as a rookie and threw for 3,568 yards this season. He also rushed for 891 yards and totaled 31 touchdowns (25 passing, 6 rushing) during his rookie campaign. Although this is a regular-season award, it’s worth noting Daniels will be competing in the NFC Championship Game this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Thomas was one of the lone bright spots for the Jaguars this year. He managed 87 receptions for 1,284 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.
Nabers had an excellent season for the Giants despite the franchise enduring a tough year overall. He caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and 7 touchdowns in 15 games.
The winner will be announced on Feb. 6.
