Aaron Murray starred at Georgia from 2009-13, and he was an All-SEC quarterback, so Murray is certainly familiar with how elite college football quarterback play looks. He lived it, and now he talks about it as an analyst for ESPN.
On Sunday morning, Murray ranked the top 10 quarterbacks right now in college football after Week 3 as we head into mid-September.
Naturally, there was some SEC flavor to Murray’s top 10, and that came immediately at the top with Murray ranking Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer at No. 1 right now. Mateer has been phenomenal so far this season for the Sooners after transferring from Washington State. He has already piled up 944 yards passing with 5 touchdown passes to help Oklahoma to a 3-0 start.
Interestingly, Murray’s guy at No. 2 is a former Georgia QB as well, with Carson Beck coming in at the 2nd spot. Beck now stars for Miami, and he’s lighting it up so far after transferring from Georgia following last season.
Murray stays in the SEC at No. 3, putting LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in that spot after the Tigers improved to 3-0 on Saturday night with a win over Florida. Murray fills out his top 5 with a couple of ACC quarterbacks in Florida State‘s Tommy Castellanos at No. 4 and Georgia Tech‘s Haynes King at No. 5.
There is a little more SEC flair to his top 10, with Tennessee sensation Joey Aguilar coming in at No. 8 and Vanderbilt‘s Diego Pavia being listed at No. 9.
Here is Murray’s complete top 10 list:
