Aaron Philo just threw one of the most ill-advised and perplexing interceptions you’ll ever see.

The Florida QB, starting against No. 3 Georgia over Tramell Jones Jr., was flushed out of the pocket and being pursued to his right facing 3rd and 6 in shallow Florida territory. Philo began to stumble and underhand tossed the ball up in the air, where it was easily picked off by Georgia cornerback Ellis Robinson IV.

After the play, ABC cameras appeared to catch Philo saying “I was trying to throw it away” while walking to the Florida sideline. Either way, the interception was a disaster of a play for the Gators.

The interception is Philo’s 4th on the season in his first outing since the Gators fell to South Carolina on October 10. Philo missed Florida’s win over Texas, where backup QB Tramell Jones came in and stunned the Longhorns in Austin. Florida head coach Jon Sumrall made the decision to go back to Philo following the bye week, and so far that decision has not gone as planned for the first-year Gators head coach.

Georgia scored on the ensuing possession following Philo’s interception and now lead the Gators 7-0 with 1:50 remaining in the first quarter. Let’s see if Philo and the Gators can respond.
