AJ Dybantsa spurns Alabama, North Carolina for record-breaking NIL deal from BYU
AJ Dybantsa, arguably the top high school basketball prospect in the country regardless of class, committed to BYU on Tuesday morning.
He chose the Cougars — and a record-breaking NIL deal — over programs such as Alabama and North Carolina. According to college basketball insider Adam Zagoria, Dybantsa’s deal is worth $7 million.
That represents a massive commitment for a BYU program that is currently in Year 1 of the Kevin Young era. Young is a former NBA assistant coach, which may have also helped in securing Dybantsa’s commitment.
Dybantsa has been a known commodity in prep basketball circles for years. Along with Cameron Boozer, he’s expected to headline a loaded 2026 NBA Draft class. He’s currently the No. 1 overall player in the country for the class of 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
He attends Utah Prep in Hurricane, Utah. He’s listed at 6-foot-9, 210 pounds. He projects as a do-it-all wing who can both create his own shot and be an excellent defender — a rare combination of skills for someone with his frame.
Alabama currently has 3 commits in the class of 2025. The Tide’s class ranks No. 12 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings. The Tar Heels currently have 2 commits in that class and own the nation’s No. 31 overall class.
