Akron football’s viral play-calling promotion is already paying dividends.
The program announced on Tuesday that one lucky season ticket holder will be able to design and call the plays during the opening drive of the Zips’ home opener against Robert Morris. The promotion includes an extra chance to win with every new season ticket holder Zips fans refer, and the random drawing is set to be held on August 19.
That drawing date gives the lucky fan who wins enough to time to plan out their first drive. In addition to being able to call the plays, the promotion also grants the winner access to the coaches’ box, a pre-game press conference and a mic’d up opportunity with a play sheet and headset.
Whoever came up with this promotion idea deserves a raise, because it’s definitely drawing interest. On Thursday, Akron sold out its suites for the first time in program history, and Akron leaders are expected to join the Pat McAfee show later this week to further advertise the promo.
