When Nick Saban speaks, people listen. The opinion of one of college football’s most successful active coaches carries significant weight within the SEC and around the country.

When it comes to rules about recruiting, camps, assistants and signing periods, Saban isn’t shy about speaking out. New Alabama AD Greg Byrne recently told The Daily Bama Blog that he fully supports Saban using that platform:

I think you do have an opportunity obviously as the head football coach, and even as the athletics director at Alabama, that when you do talk, people will listen. And so, one of the many things Iโ€™ve been impressed with Coach Saban about, is his opinions and where heโ€™s coming from are well thought-out.

And I believe heโ€™s very much coming from an approach of whatโ€™s good for the game of football, not just whatโ€™s good for Alabama, and I appreciate that about him. So as different issues come along, I look forward to having discussions with him and our other coaches, whatever the issue is, and try and be helpful when I can be to do whatโ€™s good for intercollegiate athletics and do whatโ€™s good for the University of Alabama.

Byrne’s comments come from an exclusive interview with Alex Byington. He addressed topics concerning all Alabama sports, including football and Coach Saban. The first portion of the interview can be read here.
