Alabama and Kalen DeBoer have agreed to a contract extension that comes with a raise.

Greg Byrne revealed the new deal during Alabama’s Board of Trustees compensation committee meeting. DeBoer will make $12.5 million annually, up from the $10.5 million he was previously set to make in 2026.

Under the new deal, DeBoer’s buyout is $10 million through January 2027. It then drops to $8 million through January 2028 and $6 million through January 2029. Those numbers are for DeBoer buying out his contract to leave Alabama for another job.

DeBoer released a statement after the announcement.

“My family and I would like to thank the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Trant, President Mohler, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, our athletics administration and football staff, this community and the University for their continued support of Alabama Football,” said DeBoer. “We are excited about the opportunity to continue our time in Tuscaloosa with this contract extension. This University has become a special place to us, and I look forward to working to ensure that Alabama football remains at the forefront of college football. This program has a long history of success and an unmatched tradition that I was eager to be a part of two years ago, and I cannot wait to keep coaching our guys and bring more championships to Alabama.”

DeBoer has a 20-8 record in 2 seasons at Alabama. In his first season succeeding Nick Saban, DeBoer guided the Crimson Tide to a 9-4 season that ended with a trip to the ReliaQuest Bowl. Last year’s team returned to the College Football Playoff, but also lost 4 games, picking up the 11th win in the CFP First Round and the 4th loss in the Rose Bowl to eventual national champion Indiana.

In his lengthy coaching career, which dates back to 2005 at Sioux Falls, DeBoer is 124-30, having reached the College Football Playoff National Championship for 2023 at Washington.
