Alabama football suffers dramatic attendance dip at 2025 A-Day

Alabama football held its annual A-Day game on Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

Spring games have been designed differently across college football this year, with most programs making drastic changes to the format or simply canceling the event all together. Alabama opted for a format change, scrapping the old Crimson vs. White scrimmage model in favor of an afternoon of more traditional practice.

The change was evidently not popular with Alabama football fans as attendance saw a significant dip when compared to A-Day in 2024. Here’s a side-by-side view of the stadium courtesy of Alabama beat writer Nick Kelly:

Alabama declined to release official attendance numbers for A-Day this year, but it’s clear the Crimson Tide had just a few thousand fans in the stands as opposed to in 2024 when the lower bowl was nearly full. In 2024, A-Day drew an impressive 72,358 fans.

Spring game attendance is down across the board in college football this year due to the variety of format changes, so this isn’t a problem that’s specific to Alabama. But after being one of the most well-attended spring games in the country last year, it appears this event has quickly become an afterthought in Tuscaloosa.

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in 2026 or if college football programs revert back to traditional spring game formats.
