There wasn’t too much roster activity regarding former University of Alabama players following the first full weekend of NFL preseason games.
After averaging 43.7 yards per punt and also attempting his first pro kickoff against San Diego, Cody Mandell was released by Dallas. The Cowboys subsequently signed Tom Hornsey, the Ray Guy Award winner at Memphis last season.
Meanwhile, a couple of weeks after being released by the Houston Texans, Brad Smelley signed as a tight end with the St. Louis Rams. He replaced Mason Brodine, who sustained a broken ankle.
