ESPN’s Football Power Index says Alabama is no longer the No. 1 team in the country after beating Tennessee 35-13 on Saturday night.
Ohio State, who was ranked No. 2 last week, jumped the Crimson Tide after its blowout win over Northwestern Friday night. The World Wide Leader’s “measure of strength” dinged the Crimson Tide for defeating the Vols by 22 points.
Tua Tagovailoa went down during the Crimson Tide’s win over the Vols, suffering a high ankle sprain. Nick Saban said after the game that Tagovailoa would be out a week or two, meaning he’ll likely miss Saturday’s game against Arkansas but should return for LSU on November 9 following the bye week.
Clemson was the FPI’s preseason No. 1 team, but the Tigers are now ranked No. 3. The Buckeyes, Crimson Tide and Tigers have all been ranked No. 1 in the FPI at one point this season.
After Week 8, Ohio State’s FPI is 31.7, while Alabama’s is 29.9. Both the Buckeyes and Tide look primed for the College Football Playoff.
