Alabama OC Ryan Grubb calls second-half performances ‘pathetic’
Through five weeks, the Alabama Crimson Tide averaged 49.6 points per game. That figure was never going to be sustainable. However, the drop off to 27 total points in their last two games — both losses — was a bit drastic.
Following defeats at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb spoke to the media on Monday morning. He didn’t mince words when discussing the Crimson Tide’s offensive struggles, particularly in the second half.
“Two weeks in a row with no points in the second half is pathetic,” Grubb told reporters.

Alabama posted a combined 225 total yards in the second halves against Georgia and Tennessee. The offensive woes helped the Bulldogs (19:11-10:49) and Volunteers (17:27-12:33) out-possess the Crimson Tide by wide margins in their respective second halves.
As Grubb mentioned, Alabama’s offense has not scored a touchdown in the third or fourth quarter since Week 5. The Crimson Tide notched a field goal on their opening third-quarter drive vs. Georgia, but have gone punt, punt, turnover on downs, punt, punt, interception on six possessions since then.
Grubb and Keelon Russell have an opportunity to work out the unit’s kinks this weekend when the Texas A&M Aggies come to Tuscaloosa. Failure to do so would eliminate practically any confidence in the Crimson Tide making a deep College Football Playoff run. Alabama and Texas A&M kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (ABC).
