The lateral to Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor during the upset vs. Georgia was 1 of the most viral plays from the college football slate last season. In the aftermath of the epic play, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb went into his thought process.

On a first-and-10 from the Georgia 13-yard line, Grubb dialed up a screen pass from quarterback Ty Simpson to the 6-foot-7, 366-pound Proctor. Proctor proceeded to rumble from the 17-yard line to the 2-yard line as he bulldozed Bulldogs along the way. On the next play, Simpson rushed for a touchdown.

“First of all, any play like that, the only way I do stuff like that is if it’s guys that I trust,” Grubb said during a press conference on Monday. “And obviously Germie Bernard, KP are guys that are trustworthy and they know that if they trick off the rep in practice, or they’re not good with the football or just not secure, then we just won’t do it. So KP took it very seriously.”

The junior from Iowa was a Freshman All-American in 2023 and was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2024. No. 10 Alabama hosts No. 16 Vanderbilt in a ranked showdown Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC).
