Alabama snapped a historic Georgia win streak with upset win in Athens
With its 24-21 win over Georgia on Saturday night in Athens, Alabama made a bit of history.
The loss snapped a 33-game home winning streak for the Bulldogs, which began back in 2019. Prior to Saturday night, Georgia had not lost Between the Hedges since Oct. 12, 2019, when Will Muschamp’s South Carolina program went into Athens and came out with a 20-17 victory.
This result is also the continuation of a pattern at Georgia under Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs are now 1-7 against Alabama under Smart’s leadership and have lost 10 of the last 11 games vs. the Crimson Tide overall. This was also Alabama’s third consecutive win in Athens.
As for the Tide, this is a massive win for Kalen DeBoer and his staff. Alabama needed a high-profile victory to help make up for its Week 1 loss to Florida State, and this will over the Bulldogs will certainly suffice — for now at least.
Alabama will now turn the page to next week as it hosts Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide will certainly be looking for revenge after losing to the Commodores in Nashville last season.
