WATCH: Alabama TE, who was just awarded a scholarship, explains ‘Trailer Park Jesus’ nickname

Alabama made headlines last week for awarding walk-on tight end Amos Giles a scholarship. Tua Tagovailoa actually broke the news.
Tight end is a major position of need for the Tide, and it appears that Amos is ready to help fill the void left behind by Irv Smith Jr. and Hale Hentges. This season, Alabama will use a combination of Miller Forristall and Major Tennison, along with Giles and converted linebacker Cameron Latu, at the position.
Earlier this offseason, Nick Saban said that Alabama may add another scholarship tight end by some avenue, namely transfer; however, that never came to fruition. Instead, Saban awarded Giles a scholarship.
Alabama made Giles to the media Tuesday, and he explained his interesting nickname, “Trailer Park Jesus.” The video below as shared by TideSports’ Brett Hudson.

Saban was asked about Giles earlier in fall camp, and he explained that he had taken advantage of the opportunity that was presented to him.
“Giles has done a good job in taking advantage of the opportunity that he has because of the lack of depth that we have at that position. He’s gotten a lot of repetitions and he’s taken advantage of it.”
