The Alabama Crimson Tide’s 2025 season came crashing to an end well before the sun finally came out Thursday at the Rose Bowl, as Indiana smacked around Alabama en route to a 38-3 decision that felt even more lopsided than the score indicated.

Among the disappointing moments of Alabama’s trip to Pasadena was the play of Tide quarterback Ty Simpson, who was knocked out of the game early in the third quarter due to injury after passing for just 67 yards.

Simpson was hit hard from behind by Indiana defensive back D’Angelo Ponds during a 9-yard scramble in the second quarter, fumbling the football in the process. The Hoosiers recovered the loose football and promptly marched 58 yards on 11 plays for a touchdown to make it 17-0.

Simpson attempted to play after halftime, appearing to be in pain during a 3-and-out possession to start the third quarter before being replaced by Austin Mack for the remainder of the game.

After the game, Simpson told reporters that he cracked a rib on the play when he fumbled.

“On the fumble, took a helmet to the rib,” Simpson said. “Cracked my rib. Tried to go back in the second half. Just felt like the best chance for us to win in the second half was Austin.”

Simpson added that he didn’t care to divulge any other injuries he may have sustained during Alabama’s run to the College Football Playoff.

“I really don’t want to get into that, honestly,” Simpson said. “There was lots of speculation. Playing an SEC schedule, I’m always going to get hurt. Always going to get dinged up. I’m not gonna get into what I hurt.”
