Alex Collins passed away in a Sunday crash, law enforcement in Florida announced Monday.
Collins’ passing was first announced publicly Monday by the Baltimore Ravens, his team from 2017-to-2018. Collins’ fatal crash occurred near his childhood home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Monday evening, The Broward County Sheriff’s Office released details of Sunday’s crash, which occurred at 10:20 p.m.
Collins was traveling eastbound on a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600K motorcycle on West Oakland Park Boulevard approaching Northwest 33rd Avenue in Lauderhill Lakes. Collins collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban SUV when the driver turned left to travel south onto Northwest 33rd Avenue.
“As the car crossed the eastbound lanes, the motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV,” per BSO. “The impact caused the motorcyclist to enter the rear passenger side window of the Chevrolet and come to a final rest inside the car. The collision also caused the Chevrolet to rotate clockwise before finally resting.”
Collins, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. Broward Sheriff’s Office says the Chevrolet driver remained on the scene and cooperated. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
Fans on social media are sharing fond memories of Collins’ Arkansas career, in which he rushed for more than 1,000 yards each of his 3 seasons. He played 5 seasons in the NFL between the Ravens and Seattle Seahawks. Collins most recently played for the USFL’s Memphis Showboats.
