Alex Golesh and Auburn pulled off the biggest win of the day on Saturday, as the Tigers went to Athens and knocked off No. 1 Georgia, 27-24, on a last-second field goal. While most of his family was back home for his daughter’s homecoming, Golesh’s son Bear was there, and he asked if he could come on the field when the Tigers won.
After the game, Golesh got to experience that moment with his son, and he couldn’t help but get emotional on the field.
“Bear said, Thursday, ‘Dad, can I get on the field when we win?'” Alex Golesh said. “We’re on the field, bro.”
Things started off poorly for the Tigers, as they were down 14-0 early in the game. However, the Tigers stayed together and responded with 24 unanswered points to take a lead.
After the Bulldogs came back to tie it, Byrum Brown made enough plays to get the Tigers into field goal position. After a personal foul on Georgia, the Tigers’ kick got easier, and Alex McPherson made the field goal.
Brown came from USF with Golesh, and he did for these types of moments. He finished with 150 passing yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for another 115 yards and one more score.
Golesh was looking for a statement victory to get his Auburn tenure started, and he was able to do that on Saturday night.
