Alex Golesh shares initial impressions from Auburn’s first spring practice
New Auburn coach Alex Golesh met with reporters on Tuesday afternoon following his first spring practice at the helm.
Golesh was complimentary of his team, highlighting their “intent” and “energy” on day one.
“Intent, awesome. Energy, awesome,” Golesh said. “It’s been a fun group to coach through these almost 4 months here. They bought in quickly. They’ve done what we’ve asked them to do collectively. They’ve tried to come together, I think that’s the hardest thing to do right now in college football is bring a team together, the connection piece.
“I was really curious to see what practice would look like. Because it’s all good until you get out here and you get going … I thought energy, enthusiasm was really good. I thought as it went, we got some tempo going, it got a little bit sloppy at the end. That’s the part that we’ve got to coach through — it never gets sloppy. The intent is the same all the way through. But for the most part, I was really pleased with how it went.”
Here’s video of Golesh’s comments:
This is an important transition year for the Tigers, who are hoping to take a big step forward after parting ways with Hugh Freeze. Golesh brought numerous coaches and players from his successful South Florida program, so there’s optimism that Auburn can compete at a high level right away in 2026.
Auburn will open the 2026 season against Baylor in Atlanta on Sept. 5.
