Since LSU fired Brian Kelly last Sunday, there have been a ton of interesting details emerging surrounding just how dysfunctional things truly were down in Baton Rouge over the course of his tenure as the head man of the Tigers.
One of the more baffling allegations to come out in this regard has been Kelly’s unwillingness to allow former LSU greats to come back to campus and help out the program in any capacity.
Former All-American offensive tackle for the Tigers and Super Bowl Champion with the Los Angeles Rams, Andrew Whitworth, is the latest former player to come out and confirm Kelly’s lack of interest in bringing back former players, saying on his podcast that Kelly “completely blew him off” when he offered to come back and help mentor the younger players on the team.
โI donโt know Brian Kelly at all,” Whitworth said, per ProFootballTalk. “But what I do know is, I reached out multiple times to say Iโd love to help you, and gotten lots of, โThatโs great, Iโll keep that in mindโ type stuff.โ
Whitworth also went on to say that he’s never heard a single positive story about Kelly’s leadership ability from people in or around the program, and that everything he’s heard has always been negative.
โI havenโt heard a single story,โ Whitworth said. โIโve only heard stories about the other side of it. Youโve even seen some current players who just played for him coming out and saying one of the worst experiences theyโve ever had as a human being, and the leader he was.โ
