As Georgia prepares for the 2026 season, its depth could be a significant concern.

That sentiment was shared by an anonymous SEC coach who spoke with Athlon Sports for its 2026 preview magazine. The coach said Georgia and other elite programs have a “thinner margin for error” moving forward:

Do they still have the depth that they had in 2020? I think the answer to that is โ€˜no.โ€™ Those backups or third-string guys are playing for Missouri or Georgia Tech. I donโ€™t know that their process is the same. I donโ€™t know that their depth is the same. Are those elite programs getting better? Probably not. They have a thinner margin for error.

The Bulldogs haven’t competed in the National Championship Game since 2022, but they’ve still been the class of the SEC in recent years. Georgia has won back-to-back SEC Championships entering the 2026 season.

Of course, depth for all top programs has become a significant concern as the transfer portal allows for earlier playing time for would-be reserves at Georgia and other top programs.

In 2026, the Bulldogs had 14 players depart via the transfer portal and land at other programs including numerous former blue-chip prospects.

Georgia will be looking to make it back to national title contention in 2026. Here’s a look at the latest odds on Kalshi:
