Anthony Richardson opens up on early season struggles while eyeing improvement: ‘I can’t try to force it’

Anthony Richardson is well aware of his struggles early in the 2022 season.
Considered a top quarterback prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson has thrown 0 touchdowns and 4 interceptions thus far while averaging just 141 yards per game. After 11 carries and 106 yards in the season opener against Utah, he’s recorded just 13 rushing attempts and 28 yards over the past 2 outings.
So what’s been the issue?
“Honestly that’s a great question. I don’t even know,” Richardson said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. “I guess I started holding myself back from running, and that’s a part of the offense that helps us move the ball. So I guess I’ve just got to pick that up and bring that back.”
The Gators face a big challenge on Sept. 24, though: No. 11 Tennessee at Neyland Stadium. Meanwhile, Richardson said while not yet throwing a TD has affected him, he’s taking somewhat of a relaxed approach.
“It was definitely getting to me. You’re like, ‘Bro, you’re a quarterback. How come you don’t have any passing touchdowns? You have four interceptions’,” he said. “I’m throwing the ball but just not getting in the end zone. But now I’m just like, ‘Okay, it’s football. It’s going to come.’ I can’t try to force it.”
