Arkansas AD reveals 2026 game against Memphis to be rescheduled
The Arkansas Razorbacks and Memphis Tigers sit roughly 320 miles away from one another. Despite this relatively close regional proximity, they’ve not battled on the gridiron in nearly 30 years. And after Thursday’s news, they won’t renew hostilities until they’ve crossed the 3-decade threshold.
During the Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club lunch, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek revealed the Razorbacks and Tigers were reworking the contract centered on their 2026 football matchup. Yurachek, per Thomas Murphy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, believes the game will be rescheduled for 2030. The move is being done to account for Arkansas — and the rest of the SEC — moving to a 9-game conference schedule next year.
Arkansas and Memphis have played in football just 5 times. Every matchup to this point took place in the 1990s (1992-95; 1998). The Tigers claimed the first three contests of their 4-season home-and-home arrangement (22-6, 6-0. 16-15) before succumbing to the Razorbacks 27-20 on the road in 1995. Arkansas prevailed 23-9 in their most recent meeting, which took place in Memphis.
Both the Razorbacks and Tigers started the 2025 season with quality showings. Arkansas thumped Alabama A&M 52-7, while Memphis dispatched Chattanooga 45-10. The two teams each face a Sun Belt school on Saturday in Week 2. Arkansas hosts Arkansas State in the first-ever meeting between the two in-state programs (SEC Network+, 5:00 p.m. E.T.). Memphis kicks off against Georgia State an hour-and-a-half later (ESPN+, 7:00 p.m. E.T.).
