The defending SEC champions are breathing a little sigh of relief on the Plains. After being tied 21-all at halftime, the Tigers have put 17 unanswered points on the board as a weather delay sent both teams to the locker room.
After a freakish first half by Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson, Gus Malzahn inserted Nick Marshall into the lineup. Marshall took the Tigers 78 yards on 19 plays to put Auburn up a touchdown. The big play of the drive was Marshall hooking up with Melvin Ray on a 28-yard pass play. The offense kept humming and No. 14 capped the drive off with a 19-yard touchdown run.
Auburn’s defense, which was lit up by the Razorbacks on the ground and in the air in the first half, made tremendous adjustment in the locker room. The Hogs, who went 84 yards and scored a touchdown on their first two possessions of the game, went 3-and-out on their first possession and only five plays on their second possession before punting.
On the Hogs third possession, Auburn’s Robenson Therezie, whose status for the game wasn’t known until 9 pm Friday, tackled Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen as he was throwing. The deflected ball was intercepted by Tiger safety Jermaine Whitehead and returned 33-yards for a touchdown putting Auburn up 35-21.
Daniel Carlson kicked a 44-yard field increasing Auburn’s lead to 38-21.
