Auburn football reveals rare uniform combo for Week 3 vs. South Alabama

Auburn’s Week 3 home nonconference matchup against South Alabama would appear on the surface to be a mundane tuneup for Jackson Arnold’s much-anticipated return to Oklahoma the following week.

But sometimes, what appears to be the case on the surface is far from what reality is. And the reality in Auburn‘s matchup with South Alabama will be that the No. 24 Tigers will play a football game as an AP ranked team for the first time since 2021, and that’s just the beginning of what will be a most unique Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The 12:45 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network will feature Auburn wearing all-white jerseys at home for the first time since 2008 against UT-Martin. The exact date was Nov. 8, 2008, and the white jerseys at home worked out pretty well for Auburn that day on the Plains, as the Tigers cruised to a 37-20 victory.

Now, 17 years later, Auburn will wear those white jerseys at Jordan-Hare again because it’s Homecoming, because of expected warm, midday temperatures in the middle of September and because Tigers fans have also been asked to wear white by the Auburn athletic department’s marketing team.

So, it will be a white out at Jordan-Hare, on the field and in the stands.

Auburn will be trying to do what it did in 2008, take care of business at home and get to 3-0. Hopefully the rest of the season is better than Tommy Tuberville’s last season on The Plains, however.
