Mathews, a former top-40 prospect in the Class of 2022 who began his career at Texas A&M, is looking to continue his college football career on The Plains. According to Jeffrey Lee of On3, Mathews has committed to transfer to Auburn.

Per Lee, Mathews indicated he’ll officially be a Tiger this month.

Mathews was a highly sought-after prospect out of Ponchatoula (Louisiana) High School. On the 247Sports Composite, Mathews was rated 4-stars, the No. 2 safety, No. 3 player in Louisiana and No. 39 prospect overall in the Class of 2022.

After receiving 31 scholarship offers, Mathews took visits to Florida, LSU, Texas and Texas A&M. The Aggies won his commitment.

Mathews spent his first 2 collegiate seasons at Texas A&M. Playing in DJ Durkin’s defense, Mathews logged 66 total tackles (46 solo), 8 pass breakups and 1 interception over 21 games.

Following the 2023 season, Mathews transferred from Texas A&M. After a year of junior college, he returns to the SEC and reunites with Durkin.

According to Lee, Mathews has 2 seasons of eligibility, with immediate eligibility for the 2025 season.
