Auburn reportedly ‘proactively pursuing’ a Bruce Pearl contract extension amid Louisville rumors

Auburn is the No. 1 men’s basketball team in the country under coach Bruce Pearl this year.
But, after Chris Mack was let go by Louisville earlier this week, rumors have been swirling that Pearl and the Cardinals might have mutual interest in him taking the now-vacant job.
Per OANow.com, though, Auburn is comfortable that a contract extension will be done that will keep Pearl on The Plains for the rest of his career:
Auburn is proactively pursuing a contract extension for men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl, and there is comfort in the athletics department that Auburn will be able to offer an extension that will allow him to finish his career with the Tigers, the Opelika-Auburn News learned Thursday as talk swirled linking Pearl to the newly open Louisville job.
Pearl has done a great job turning Auburn into one of the premier programs in the SEC. The OANow.com report states that a Feb. 4 meeting will discuss making upgrades to basketball facilities on campus.
That might be enough to keep Pearl around for a long time to come.
