See y’all next spring: CFB team goes from 11 wins to calling it a season at 0-3

The Southeastern Conference hasn’t even started the season, and yet, one program’s college football season is already over in September.

Austin Peay, an FCS program in the Ohio Valley Conference, had a 3-game fall season against Central Arkansas, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and got torched 134-37.

Yeah, that’s just brutal.

The Governors did get huge payouts from Pittsburgh, who scheduled the game late in August, and Cincinnati. The team was outscored 110-20 in those 2 games. The Panthers had a second-half running clock to ensure it was as painless as possible.

If you’ll remember, former SEC assistant Mark Hudspeth resigned from Austin Peay in July, and he guided the team to an 11-win season during his first year in 2019. Hudspeth’s resignation was due to “conduct that is clearly contrary to the character and responsibilities of a person occupying the position of Head Football Coach and which negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the University or its athletic programs in any material way.”

The Football Championship Series (FCS) is looking to have a spring season; so, Austin Peay looks to return then. In order to build for the future, FCS programs play several paycheck games against bigger and more established programs. That’s what happened this fall for the Governors.

The team released the following tweet after the loss, which included, “See y’all next spring.”
