While they may not have been household names to many during the preseason, Missouri‘s Austin Simmons and Mississippi State‘s Kamario Taylor are certainly known by fans around the SEC now.
The quarterbacks each produced standout performances in comfortable road wins last weekend, and they were nationally recognized for their efforts.
The Davey O’Brien Award, which is annually given to the top signal-caller in college football, revealed its weekly “Great 8” list on Monday, and both Simmons and Taylor were featured among the group of quarterbacks.
Simmons notably guided Mizzou to a 38-21 road win over rivals Kansas on Friday night, throwing for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns on his way to doing so. The Ole Miss transfer has quickly grasped Chip Lindsey’s offense in Columbia, and scouts have been amazed by his natural arm talent thus far.
And the very next day, Taylor produced another impressive performance in a similar non-conference road environment. The sophomore completed 16-of-22 passes for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he tacked on 13 carries for 86 yards via the ground.
The duo joined BYU’s Bear Bachemeier, Utah’s Devon Dampier, FIU’s JJ Kohl, Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker, South Florida’s Michael Van Buren and Florida Atlantic’s Caden Veltkamp on the list.
