Austin Simmons receives official injury status for Week 3 following Kentucky exit
Austin Simmons was the man tasked with replacing star quarterback Jaxson Dart for Ole Miss this fall, which makes him a very important piece for a program that’s desperate to finally get to the College Football Playoff.
Simmons helped lead the 17th-ranked Rebels to a payback victory at Kentucky last Saturday, which avenged last year’s loss to the Wildcats in Oxford. But things weren’t all smooth for Ole Miss or Simmons, who had to be helped off the field late in the 4th quarter after what appeared to be a lower-body injury.
Ole Miss earned the 30-23 road victory to get to 2-0, and now the Rebels are preparing for Saturday night’s home showdown against Arkansas. The availability report for Ole Miss and Arkansas was revealed on Wednesday night, and Simmons is on it. The sophomore is listed as probable for the matchup that will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin did tell reporters after the Week 2 win that Simmons could have returned to the field against Kentucky.
Here are the availability reports for Ole Miss and Arkansas, who both bring 2-0 records into the primetime SEC collision in Oxford:
Simmons has had his strong moments early this season, but he’s also been erratic with the football, throwing 2 interceptions in each of the Rebels’ first 2 victories against Georgia State and Kentucky. He’s thrown for 576 yards combined in the 2 games with 3 touchdown passes.
