This spring was big for defensive end Austin Smith, but he’ll miss the rest of practice with a shoulder injury, Butch Jones confirmed after Tuesday’s practice.

โ€œHeโ€™ll be lost for the rest of the spring. Weโ€™ll get him back in June,โ€ Jones said after Tuesdayโ€™s practice, via 247Sports. โ€œItโ€™s a shoulder.โ€

Smith, a Georgia native, was moved from linebacker to defensive line after last season, and it was a big spring for him in a new position.

Smith played in all 13 games as a freshman, making three tackles.

โ€œMost of the injuries were postseason injuries,โ€ Jones said of the team’s injuries. โ€œWeโ€™ve had โ€” knock on wood โ€” very few this spring. But not really. Just bumps and bruises here and there. Weโ€™ve had some illness going around, so weโ€™ve had individuals (sick). Justin Martin didnโ€™t practice on Saturday. He had some illness. He wasnโ€™t out here today, either. He has the flu.”
