This spring was big for defensive end Austin Smith, but he’ll miss the rest of practice with a shoulder injury, Butch Jones confirmed after Tuesday’s practice.
โHeโll be lost for the rest of the spring. Weโll get him back in June,โ Jones said after Tuesdayโs practice, via 247Sports. โItโs a shoulder.โ
Smith, a Georgia native, was moved from linebacker to defensive line after last season, and it was a big spring for him in a new position.
Smith played in all 13 games as a freshman, making three tackles.
โMost of the injuries were postseason injuries,โ Jones said of the team’s injuries. โWeโve had โ knock on wood โ very few this spring. But not really. Just bumps and bruises here and there. Weโve had some illness going around, so weโve had individuals (sick). Justin Martin didnโt practice on Saturday. He had some illness. He wasnโt out here today, either. He has the flu.”
