Billy Napier wants to get freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson back on the field, but he’s not going to rush it.

On Wednesday night, the Florida head coach provided reporters with a positive injury update on the Tampa product, who has yet to make his Gators debut because of a lower leg injury he suffered in fall camp. According to Billy Napier, that could change soon, with the head coach saying that Wilson will begin practicing again next week.

If Napier’s timeline for Wilson is right, that means the 6-foot-3, 213-pound wideout would miss Florida’s Week 4 showdown at No. 4 Miami. It would also mean that Wilson would be back on the practice field next week while the Gators are on a bye. After this Saturday’s primetime game at Miami, the bye week arrives followed by another showcase game at home against No. 8 Texas on Oct. 4.

Wilson could be in line to finally make his Florida debut against the Longhorns, if Napier is on target about Wilson practicing next week.

Wilson had a chaotic path to Gainesville, originally signing to play at Oregon before requesting to be released from his financial aid documents. He planned to sign with Florida once he was released from those financial documents with Oregon, and he committed to Florida on Dec. 22, 2024.

Now, he’s still waiting to get back on the practice field so he can start his college career in Gainesville.
