Brent Pry was at Lane Stadium on Wednesday as Metallica paid a visit to Blacksburg for a long-anticipated concert. And it wouldn’t be a Metallica concert without “Enter Sandman”, the band’s signature song and Virginia Tech‘s entrance song at every home game.
“Standing out on that platform, watching and listening to that, I get chills. It’s special,” the Virginia Tech head coach told Kris Budden and Ben Hartsock on SiriusXM College Sports Radio on Thursday.
Pry mentioned that the staff members that came up with the idea to play “Enter Sandman” before every game are still at the university.
“They also had an opportunity to meet the band (Wednesday) along with myself,” Pry said.
Today, “Enter Sandman” is synonymous with Virginia Tech football and one of college football’s most well-known traditions.
“Our guys are very, very appreciative and feel very fortunate to have that type of entrance. It’s the greatest entrance in all of college football,” Pry said. “To run out of that tunnel and experience that, that’s a lifetime experience and one that they’ll never forget. I do remind them often of how fortunate they are … No better way to kick off a football game than coming out to ‘Enter Sandman’ with 70,000 jumping like crazy and singing at the top of their lungs.”
