Brian Robinson Jr. says LSU’s ‘disrespect’ in 2019 is fueling Alabama this week

Brian Robinson Jr. was a junior at Alabama in 2019. By the Crimson Tide’s lofty standards, that was a down season, as they had 2 losses and fell short of reaching both the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff.

Among those defeats was a home loss to LSU, which went on to go 15-0 and win the national title. It was the first time that the Tigers had defeated the Tide in Tuscaloosa since 2011, and it snapped LSU’s 8-game losing streak against Alabama.

The Crimson Tide bounced back against the Tigers in 2020, notching a 55-17 win in Baton Rouge. But LSU hasn’t been back to Bryant-Denny Stadium since that 2019 game — until this Saturday.

Alabama and LSU are set to continue its rivalry series this week. And leading up to the game, Robinson has 1 thing on his mind — the way that the Tigers celebrated on the Crimson Tide’s home field in 2019, when Joe Burrow was carried off the field as the hero of a 46-41 game.

โ€œThatโ€™s something that we keep lingering,โ€ Robinson said on Monday, per AL.com’s Michael Casagrande. โ€œWe make sure people know just the disrespect that was with that, how it made us feel and everything we have to do to make sure that doesnโ€™t happen again.โ€

And Robinson added that it’s impacting the way Alabama is preparing for this game.

“We feel like weโ€™ve got to respond to that,” Robinson said, per Casagrande.

LSU isn’t the same dominant team it was in 2019, as it’s currently 4-4 this season, which includes a 2-3 record in SEC play. The Tigers have lost 3 of their past 4 games, including their last matchup at Ole Miss 2 weeks ago.

Alabama will look to notch its third straight win and improve to 8-1 when it faces LSU on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
