Bruce Pearl weighs in on Sharife Cooper’s first double-double: He ‘was the best player on the floor’

The Auburn Tigers went into Georgia and trounced the Bulldogs on Wednesday night, leaving Athens with a 95-77 victory.

Freshman PG Sharife Cooper, playing in only his second game after a lengthy NCAA eligibility battle, was electric. He finished with 28 points, 12 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

He wasn’t the only one to score at-will against Georgia, as 6 Auburn players scored at least 10 points. After the game, coach Bruce Pearl praised Cooper’s selflessness for helping the team:

Adding to that selflessness, Cooper didn’t want to discuss his first-career double-double. Rather, he said it’s all about getting the Tigers’ first SEC win of the season:

It wasn’t all good for Cooper, who committed 5 turnovers and went 0-for-4 from 3-point range. He’ll be the first one to tell you he should be even better.

That’s a scary thought for SEC teams moving forward.
