Bryce Underwood, Justice Haynes have heated exchange amid struggles vs. Oklahoma
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood is not happy with the Wolverines’ offense after one half in Norman.
Oklahoma took a 14-0 lead into the halftime break on Saturday night. The Sooners were able to keep Michigan off the score board entirely thanks to a missed 32-yard field goal late in the second quarter.
Michigan’s offense failed to create any scoring opportunities beyond that field goal attempt. The Wolverines averaged just 4.2 yards per play in the first half and went 2-for-7 on third down.
Underwood specifically was 5-of-10 for 75 yards in the first half. Haynes got the bulk of the work in Michigan’s backfield, but could only turn 12 carries into 36 yards.
Amid those offensive struggles, ABC cameras caught a heated exchange between Underwood and Haynes on the sideline after an offensive series:
This is Underwood’s first career road start. It’s unclear what he took exception to in this conversation with Haynes, but this is surely an emotional evening for the true freshman quarterback who is tasked with breaking down this Brent Venables-led defense in Norman.
Haynes is in his first season with Michigan after transferring in from Alabama.
Oklahoma is 1-0 all-time against Michigan.
