Buck Belue had a theory about why Kirby Smart’s philosophy has changed this year.

Belue played quarterback at Georgia from 1978-1981. Belue appeared on Friday’s edition of the Another Dooley Noted Podcast.

Belue believes Smart is willing to give a lot more players playing time so that they don’t end up transferring. Instead of winning 55-7, Georgia wins games 35-7 which Smart is ok with in Belue’s eyes.

“Kirby’s got this new philosophy of with this soft schedule this year. He’s playing everybody. Everybody gets to play,” said Belue. “He’s doing that because he doesn’t want them to think about transferring. Instead of winning 55-7, you win 35-7. I think he’s ok with that. They’re as deep at every position as I have ever seen it.”

The Bulldogs have still looked dominant, but have played in some close games this year.

South Carolina gave Georgia trouble as the Bulldogs won by 10. Auburn held on until a late touchdown in the fourth quarter from Brock Bowers decided things.

These last few games will be a good test for Georgia. Three ranked teams await the Bulldogs in the final five games of the regular season.

Florida is up next in Jacksonville with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on CBS.
